Starting and ending in Douz, the gateway to the Sahara, this route takes you far off the main roads and across vast desert landscapes, combining sand, gravel, rocky tracks, and remote desert crossings.

Highlights and Local Specialties Along the Route

• Matmata is famous for its traditional underground Berber houses, built to escape the desert heat. The region is also known for simple Berber cuisine, including flatbread baked in stone ovens and olive-oil-based dishes.

• Douiret, a historic Berber mountain village, offers a glimpse into authentic desert life with its stone houses carved into the hills. The village is known for homemade bread, olive oil, and traditional slow-cooked stews. The canyon make you feel like you arrived in Arizona.

• Ksar Ghilane, a legendary Sahara oasis, is a must-visit for desert motorcyclists. After long sand sections, riders can relax in the natural hot spring and enjoy traditional tea and date-based snacks.
