Tunisia – a MUST for every off-road and travel enthusiast.

Endless expanses of desert, mountains that make you feel like you're in Arizona, palm trees at every turn. This is exactly how adventurists imagine paradise.

This digital tourguide is a little different from the usual ones. We have prepared 8 tracks for you, but more importantly, there are POIs that allow you to plan each day yourself while still staying on the safe side.

We have noted sights, campsites, hotels, repair shops (motorcycles), gas stations, and the most important highlights so that you can plan your routes independently and know exactly where and when you need to refuel, where accommodation is available, and which important points you should not miss.

The tracks we have already planned include some highlights, but not all of them. This means you can plan additional days at your leisure and see other highlights too.

We are happy to provide you with the following important information for your trip:

1. Your motorcycle's fuel consumption can double in sand. Please do not overestimate your range.

2. Always take extra water with you, about 2 liters.

3. Temperatures can change by up to 30 degrees in a single day. Please bring enough sunscreen, but also enough warm clothing.

4. Expect the worst; anything is possible in the desert.

5. VERY IMPORTANT: Take a GPS communication device with you, such as a Garmin inReach. There is no cell phone reception in most areas.

There are many gas stations on the side of the road where you can fill up from canisters. If you fill up at one of these gas stations, such as in Ksar Ghilane, make sure they don't empty the canister completely. Dirt and, if there is any, water collects at the bottom of the canister. For example, if there are 10 liters in the canister, it is better to only fill your motorcycle with 9 liters – then you will be safe.

It is important to be prepared for the possibility that something could happen to you in the desert. There is much less chance that someone will happen to pass by and be able to help you if you are visible everywhere. Even if you are traveling with friends, you will notice that it is possible to get lost in the dunes – even if your friends are only 10 meters away.

We always carry a Garmin inReach, a radio, a drone (good for flying away and searching an emergency), 2 liters of water reserve (4 liters in total), something to make a fire, a tarp for protection from the sun or bad weather, IFAK, small snacks, and of course tools and ropes to recover the vehicle. Don't underestimate the risk and prepare yourself and your vehicle for the tour every day.

Find out about your insurance in advance and, no matter how you do it, go to a private clinic, such as the Jerba la Douz Clinic, in the event of an accident or emergency. Hospitals in Tunisia will not be able to help you with serious injuries (personal experience).

The tracks start from Douz, Ksar Ghilane or Matmata. The tracks are planned from camp to camp (or hotel) and always includes fuel stations on longer tracks.

The country and its people are simple. Friendliness is paramount, the people welcome you with open arms and are always helpful. They are content with very little, as you will notice. If you need something, don't hesitate to ask the citizens.

Enjoy Tunisia!
